Abstract

ABSTRACT:Ocular complication of herpes zoster ophthalmicus may lead to substantial visual disability, severe post herpetic neuralgia and increasing in pateint who are immunocomprismiesd.AIM: To identify the pattern of ocular complication in HZO.METHOD AND MATERIAL: cross sectional study is taken.RESULT: 30 pateints were examined of which 17 were male and 13 were female.Most of pateint were above 40 years. 78% of pateint had some form of ocular involvement. Pain was the most commonest complaint. The young HIV patient was most common risk factor.
Visual study was good in majority 73%.Lid and adnexa finding 45% was most common followed by conjunctivitis 20%,corneal complication in 15% ,uveitis in 8% and post herpetic neuralgia and secondary glaucoma each in 6%.CONCLUSION:Eyelid and adnexal involvement is most commonly foundfollowed by corneal complication and uveitis. There need to be awareness of ocular involvement which can be sight threatening among HZO patients.
