Abstract
Synopsis: Manual small incision cataract surgery is a safe, simple, consistent, stable, and cost-effective way of cataract removal. Phacoemulsification has become a routine procedure for cataract extraction in most parts of the world. In order to obtain the advantages of a self-sealing sutureless incision at a low cost, ophthalmologists in the developing world are performing manual small incision cataract surgery as an alternative. High astigmatism is an important cause of poor uncorrected visual acuity after cataract surgery. Here we present a case series of different ways how to decrease the preoperative astigmatism and to get a good visual and refractive outcome after small incision cataract surgery.
