Abstract
PURPOSE-Evaluate efficacy of Fibrin glue in sealing corneal perforation post infectious keratitis.STUDY DESIGN:Prospective observational study over 1 year on 84 eyes of 84 patients at tertiary centre of North India.METHOD-Inclusion criteria:age 45-70 years, corneal perforation ≤2.5mm,within 5mm from centre, willing for consent and follow-up.Exclusion criteria:Sclera/limbal involvement, associated endophthalmitis/panophthalmitis.Fibrin Glue was applied to perforation site under topical anaesthesia and followed-up for 8 weeks.p<0.05 was considered statistically significant(calculated by Pearson Chi-square test)RESULT-Bacterial keratitis was major aetiology for corneal perforations.Morphological outcome had significant relationship with etiology and perforation size(p=0.008,0.0046).Functional outcome had significant relationship with ulcer location, symptom duration(p=0.006,0.005) CONCLUSION-Fibrin glue is an effective tool for sealing corneal perforations ≤2.5mm,paracentral in location.
