Abstract
Study Design – Case Series
Purpose – To elucidate the clinical presentation, management and complications of pythium keratitis
Methods – 2 cases of pythium keratitis were included in the study after microbiological evaluation.Detailed slit lamp examination, Microbiological evaluation , appropriate medical therapy were given and followed up at close intervals. Both the cases deteriorated further required therapeutic keratoplasty for infection control.
Results – Both cases had favourable clinical outcomes in eliminating the infection from the eye
Conclusion- When a diagnosis of pythium keratitis is made and maximal medical therapy is given and they do not respond in 2 weeks time we should not hesitate in going ahead with therapeutic keratoplasty ,as delay in this critical intervention can weigh against favourable outcomes.
