Abstract
STUDY DESIGN:
Comparative observational study
PURPOSE:
To study the effect of cataract surgery on meibomian gland function
METHODS:
30 patients who underwent uneventful cataract surgery were randomly included in each group – SICS and PHACO respectively and subjected to Meiboscore, TBUT, Schirmer’s test, OSDI Score – pre and post operatively after 1 month. Student paired t test and independent sample t test was used to analyse the data.
RESULTS:
There is significant differences in TBUT, Schirmer’s test, OSDI score preoperatively and postoperatively in both groups and no significant difference in meiboscore and not significant between SICS and PHACO.
CONCLUSION:
Meibomian gland function has been decreased causing dry eye symptoms after cataract surgery irrespective type of surgery.
