Abstract
STUDY DESIGN: Observational study
PURPOSE: To compare the recurrence rate and surgical outcomes of conjunctival autograft (CAG) and amniotic membrane autograft(AMG) in pterygium.
METHODS: Patients were randomly divided into two groups of 20 patients each. Group 1 patients underwent pterygium excision with CAG and group 2 patients underwent pterygium excision with AMG. Patients were followed up postoperatively on day 1, day 7, 1month, 3months and 6months and were observed for recurrence, graft adherence, graft oedema
RESULTS: Complication rate was more in AMG group as compared to CAG group. Both the groups had no recurrence.
CONCLUSION: Even though AMG patients are more comfortable than CAG
patients during immediate post operative follow up, AMG patients have shown
to have more graft complications than CAG.
