Abstract
Aim: Prevalence of dry eye disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and its association with diabetic retinopathy in tertiary care Centre of Jharkhand. Study design: Hospital based cross sectional study. Methods: Hospital based cross sectional study was conducted in the department of Ophthalmology, in tertiary care Centre of Jharkhand from Dec 2022 to June 2023. 152 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who attended the OPD were included as per inclusion-exclusion criteria. Dry eye disease was assessed using ocular surface disease index, Schirmer test, tear film breakup time. ocular examination (visual acuity, slit lamp examination, IOP, fundus examination) to be done. Results: prevalence of dry eye disease was 46 %. there were significant association observed between dry eye disease with duration of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy. Conclusion: Screening for diabetic retinopathy, assessment of dry eyes should be routinely done in diabetic patients.
