Abstract
STUDY DESIGN:Prospective case study.
PURPOSE:To evaluate various causes,clinical presentation of optic disc edema and assess prognosis in patients attending ophthalmology OPD.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:Sample size 20.Patients who visited Ophthalmology opd / referred from other departments are evaluated for Optic disc edema in NRIIMS,vizag
INCLUSION CRITERIA:Children >10 years,Adults <80 years.Both males and females.All cases of Optic disc edema secondary to Intracranial, Systemic and Orbital causes.
EXCLUSION CRITERIA:Myelinated nerve fibers,Morning glory Syndrome
RESULTS:Overall optic disc edema,b/l presentation as papilledema secondary to IIH more common especially in the age of21-30 yrs with female preponderance. >3/4th of the patients had normal visual acuity and normal Color vision at the time of presentation.
CONCLUSION: History,complete ophthalmic examination and investigations like CT,MRI,MRV,CSF Opening pressure are mandatory to diagnose patients with papilledema secondary to IIH.
