Abstract
AIM: To study demography of various corneal ulcers and to study etiology,risk factors,clinical presentation
METHODOLOGY:It is a prospective observational study done in department of ophthalmology,Government General Hospital,Kakinada.Study done over a period of 1 year in 50 patients
RESULT:Out of 50 cases majority of cases belong to 30 to 50 years of age group (84%).Males are more affected than females(6.1:1),,ocular trauma was most common risk factor accounting for devolopment of corneal ulcer in this study 62% followed by exposure keratitis 16%.Among them ocular trauma with vegetative matter was responsible for 40% of cases.Most of the ulcers in this study were central in location 44% followed by peripheral 36% and ulcers involving both central and peripheral 20%.Among 50 corneal scrapings collected, Fungi was the most common cause of corneal ulcer occurring in 26 cases (52%) followed by Bacteria in 16 cases(32%)..
