Abstract
Study design: A case control study
Purpose: To examine the average RNFL and macular layer in unilateral amblyopia and to compare with fellow eye and age matched controls using optical coherence tomography.
Methods: A thorough eye examination was performed. Following cycloplegic refraction, OCT was used to determine macula and average RNFL thickness.
Results: Total 44 eyes of 44 amblyopic patients were included. The mean age of presentation in the amblyopic were 20.2±8.85years. The average RNFL and foveal thickness were 96.09±14.83µm, 228±21.7µm respectively. All parameters in amblyopic individuals were slightly thicker than fellow eye and normal controls. However, the results were statistically insignificant (p value > 0.05).
Conclusion: Amblyopia is not associated with changes in foveal, average RNFL parameters.
