Abstract
A prospective observational two year study was conducted on 50 patients to evaluate the preoperative and post operative changes in refractive error and corneal topography following horizontal strabismus surgery in patients aged between 8-35yrs. The mean preoperative spherical power was -1.0±2.8 D and postoperative mean spherical power at the end of 6 months was -1.0±2.9D.The mean preoperative cylindrical power was -0.63±1.1D and postoperative mean cylindrical power was -0.73±1.1D at the end of 6 months. The mean preoperative Km was 44.67±1.7D and mean post operative Km at 6 months was 45.01±1.8D. All parameters assessed under corneal topography showed insignificant changes postoperatively at the end of follow up period. From our study we inferred that both the refractive status and corneal topography does not show any significant change post operatively after horizontal muscle recession-resection procedures as comparable to some of the previous studies done.
