Abstract

PURPOSE:To study influence of pseudoexfoliation on cataract surgery.METHODS:76 patients with pseudo-exfoliation of total 2328 patients operated for cataract divided into phaco(26) and sics group(40).RESULTS:Intraoperative difficulties due to small pupil-difficult rhexis and nucleus delivery(36%),Difficulty in cortical removal(42%),Zonular disruption(21%),Difficulty in centering IOL.(14%).Intraoperative management:Viscodilation of pupil with 1.4% sodium hyaluronate in phaco patients(87%),pupil stretching.2 or more planned sphincterotomies in SICS depending upon pupillary size and nuclear grading in 22 patients with SICS(44%),relaxation of CCC.POSTOPERATIVE findings on 1st day-Corneal haze (42%),Iris pigment in AC and over corneal endothelium (52%),Ac reaction (46%).Conclusion:Careful pre-operative , intra and post-operative planning in eyes with pseudo-exfoliation syndrome ensures a good visual outcome following a cataract surgery with minimal complications.
