Abstract

Study Design: Case report
Purpose: To report recurrent episcleritis as a previously unknown clinical presentation of Sharp's syndrome.
Methods: A 57 year old male patient presented with complaints of persistent redness in both eyes, headache on and off since the past 8 months. The following investigations were performed: VA, colour vision with Ishihara charts, GAT, Slit lamp examination, fundus examination, OCT macula, Optic Disc and RFNL analysis, hematological investigations (CBP, ESR, CRP, Mantoux test, Chest x-ray, Viral profile, ANA profile), MRI brain and orbits.
Results: ANA profile revealed anti-u1-snRNP antibodies and pachymeningitis in MRI. All other investigations were within normal limits. Patient was referred to rheumatologist and neurologist for further management.
Conclusion: Patient was diagnosed with Sharp's syndrome (Mixed Connective Tissue Disease) by exclusion of other diseases and is now on mild immunosuppressive therapy with monthly followups.
