Abstract
Prospective , To investigate the effects of : Peroperative use of subconjunctival bevacizumab versus Mitomycin C in cases of recurrent pterygium undergoing excision with limbal stem cell autograft on :Histological aspects of conjunctiva,Ocular surface status, Recurrence. 30 eyes each of recurrent Pterygium 0.02% mitomycin C or sub conjunctival administration of 1.25 mg Avastin in 0.05 ml prior to the excision of Pterygium and limbal conjunctival autografting. Histological evaluation of Post modulation conjunctival changes after 12 to 16 weeks of surgery by studying excised tiny tissue obtained from the adjoining of base of autograft and host conjunctiva. Bevacizumab has revealed marked decline in antifibrotic and vascular proliferative activities in graft as compared to MMC modulated regimen. However corneal endothelium & pachymetry did not reveal any statistically different changes. Both the groups did not reveal any recurrence following one year followup.
