Abstract
Study design: Retrospective case series
Purpose: To analyze imaging characteristics and treatment outcomes of a novel rare entity Retinal Capillary Macroaneurysm (RCM)
Methods: Clinical profile, fundus photo, FFA, OCT characteristics & treatment outcomes of RCMs were assessed.
Results: 6 eyes of 5 patients were analysed. 1 patient had no DR, 2 had moderate NPDR, 2 had PDR. All had cystoid edema +/- NSD (CMT ~350 to 550um). RCMs were parafoveal in 2 eyes, peripapillary in 1, nasal to disc in 2 and superior to disc in 1. All had a orangish red appearance with surrounding retinal hemorrhage in 5 eyes. FFA showed hyperfluorescent spot with minimal to no leak or blocked fluorescence. OCT showed large oval lesion spanning from RNFL to ONL with hyperrefective contents. 2 eyes were observed, 2 eyes received intravitreal anti-vegf/steroid with poor treatment response. RCMs receiving focal laser treatment showed complete resolution of edema
Conclusion: RCMs respond well to focal laser therapy
