Abstract
Purpose : To assess safety of two techniques(Sewing needle microcapsulotomy and small needle aspiration) of Capsulorrhexis in White Intumescent Cataract to avert Argentinian Flag Sign. Methods : A prospective randomised clinical trial of 106 cases of white Intumescent Cataract into two groups . Randomisation done.Success- capsulorrhexis of 5.25 to 5.75 mm without any extension Results: small needle aspiration 7 patients developed Argentinian flag sign&1case in Sewing needle micro-capsulotomy.p-value of 0.001.Conclusion : Intumescent white cataracts it is the linear cut configuration of the prick made by hypodermic needle on the capsule that has the potential to spontaneously extend along its open edges aided by raised intralenticular pressure which leads to the Argentinian flag sign.Sewing needle microcapsulotomy creates an opening in the anterior capsule which has a round regular configuration similar to a capsulotomy which provides resistance against the disruptive forces.
