Abstract
Study design – Prospective clinical trial to evaluate surgical procedure outcome.
Purpose – To evaluate outcomes of mini-plication of medial rectus procedure in small angle residual exotropia (XT).
Methods – we prospectively analyzed 9 patients with mean age of 26 years who underwent mini-plication. In this procedure 6-0 polyglactin suture was secured to central 3-4 mm of muscle belly , 5 mm posterior to its insertion and this central muscle belly was plicated to the sclera just anterior to the muscle insertion.
Result – Pre-operatively 9 patients has 10 to 16 pD XT (mean 13 pD XT). The final post operative residual XT was 2 to 7 pD ( mean 4.6 pD XT). The average correction by – was 9.5 pD for medial rectus muscle. No major complications were reported
Conclusion – Mini-plication is a safe and simple alternative to prismatic glasses in residual small strabismus especially in case of adults who do not want to prismatic glasses in case of intractable diplopia.
