Abstract
We conducted a prospective outcome analysis of aphakic eyes that underwent retropupillary iris claw lens implantation(RPICL) in complicated cataract surgery cases with inadequate capsular /zonular support. The study evaluated a total of 36 eyes of 36 patients with a mean age of 68.4± 7.9years. Group A ( eyes that underwent anterior vitrectomy(AV) during RPICL) included 17eyes and group B(those that didn't undergo AV since there was not much vitreous disturbance intra-op) included 18 eyes.We compared BCVA, IOP change, spherical equivalent, pupil ovalisation and complication profile between the groups.Mean IOP at day 1 postoperative day was 22.6±5.3 which reduced to 14.2±3 follow-up visits. There was no statistically significant difference in IOP and BCVA at any point between the groups.Group B eyes experienced higher rate of postoperative transient IOPrise, transient iritis and pupil ovalisation than group A. Disenclavation of lens occurred in 3 cases in group B which was re-enclavated.
