Abstract
Screening of early hydroxychloroquine maculopathy is important to prevent permanent structural and functional retinal damage.Imaging techniques like spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) were analysed in evaluating the macular ganglion cell complex thickness(GCC) and retinal vasculature to detect the early changes in these parameters in patients who were using hydroxychloroquine(HCQ).
Patients and methods -A total of 50 patients were included in the present study. They were divided into two groups: HCQ group comprising 50 eyes of 25 patients treated with HCQ and a control group comprising 50 eyes of 25 healthy individuals. Average, minimum, and sectorial macular GCC thickness and photoreceptor layer (PL) integrity, vascular architecture and the choriocapillary were analysed and compared between the two groups.
