Abstract
Purpose:To describe clinical features,management , prognosis and visual outcome in patients presenting with toxic keratitis.
Methods: prospective study was done on 48 patients presenting with toxic keratitis over a period of 2years.Patients presented with a history of accidental fall of plant sap, custard apple seed powder, henna ,self instillation of calotropis plant juice, breast milk and topical drug abuse.patients were treated symptomatically Results.:Patients presented with defective vision(UCVA CF-1mt to 6/18 snellen chart , fluroscein stain positive diffuse punctuate epithelial keratopathy (70%),epithelial defect (33.3%),pseudodendritis ,(12.5%), DM folds (23.3%),3mm infiltrate with hypopyon in 1 patient , iridocyclitis (5%) cases, iop rise (12.5%).All patients showed clinical and visual improvement (P<0.05) following appropriate medical management. Conclusions:good clinical prognosis and visual outcome following toxic keratitis can be achieved with early management.
