Abstract
Objective: To study histopathological examination(HPE) & clinical outcomes of corneal biopsy(CB) in patients undergoing Therapeutic Penetrating Keratoplasty [TPK] .Methodology:Study includes total 32cases underwent TPK from Jan2022 to May 2023.Study place:Department of Ophthalmology,Pathology,Microbiology. CB obtained & subjected to HPE. Age, gender, presenting symptoms & preoperative(preop) diagnosis were recorded. Postoperative(postop) outcomes – graft survival, VA & complication assessed at regular intervals. Results: Most cases presented with corneal ulcer 17(53%) ,pain 22(68%) & redness 22(68%) with preop diagnosis infectious keratitis 21(65%), autoimmune keratitis 5(15%). HPE of CB shows SCC 3(9%), dystrophy 7(21%), degeneration 10(31%) & inflammation12(37%) of cornea.Complications like Graft rejection,Graft failure and postop infections were recorded & managed. Conclusion: CB in TPK provides valuable insights underlying pathology, appropriate treatment & surgical outcomes.
