Abstract

Purpose:To associate severity of Retinopathy with HBA1C and serum lipid levels.MATERIALS AND METHOD:This is a hospital based cross sectional study which included a total of 120 subjects.RESULTS:Significant correlation was observed between total cholesterol levels(p=0.000) triglyceride(p=0.010)and LDL(p=0.005)levels.The patient with STDR which included moderate NPDR with macular edema,severe NPDR and PDR was found to have high HBA1C levels with a mean value of 9.66 as compared to 6.78 in Non STDR group which included mild NPDR and moderate NPDR and it was found to be statistically significant with a p value< 0.0001.CONCLUSION:A significant correlation was found between HBA1C and serum lipid levels with sight threatening diabetic retinopathy.
