Abstract
PURPOSE:To assess clinical outcome of topical 1% 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) as a sole treatment of ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN).
METHOD:5 patients affected by OSSN who came to opd were identified and included in the study. After thorough examination they were treated with topical chemotherapy with 1% 5-FU four times a day for 4 weeks.
RESULT: Five patients in the age group of 45 to 55 years were identified and they were treated only topically using 1% 5-FU for 4 weeks. The treatment continued for next 12 weeks. Complete resolution of OSSN was observed in all the cases with minimal side effects like pain, conjunctival inflammation, photophobia, itching.
CONCLUSION: Using Topical 5-FU, as a sole therapy, is a safe and effective treatment for patients affected by OSSN, without any surgical interventions.
