Abstract
A retrospective interventional study was conducted at a rural secondary eye center in South India, between February 2021 to March 2023. 42 consecutive patients (44 eyes) with clinical and AS-OCT-based diagnosis of OSSN were included. Cyclical topical 5-Fluorouracil 1% four times/day for a week with 3 weeks off was initiated upon diagnosis. Tumor response was graded as ‘good’, ‘moderate’, ‘poor’ or ‘nil’. The median age at presentation was 41.5 years. Of 42 patients, 33 were males, and 9 females. Thirty-five patients (83.33%) had outdoor occupations. 2 (4.8%) of 42 patients had bilateral disease
Topical chemotherapy was completed in 34 eyes. 8 patients were lost to follow-up. Good tumor response was seen in 32 (94%) cases. Mean number of cycles till complete resolution was 2. Mean total follow-up period was 5.4 months. Recurrence was noted in 1 case. Tertiary eye center referral was needed in cases of recurrence, concurrent microbial keratitis or worsening of OSSN after treatment
