Abstract
DESIGN
Retrospective nonrandomized interventional case series
AIM
To study the functional and cosmetic outcome and complications of levator and frontalis muscle advancement flap technique in cases for severe blepharoptosis
METHOD
15 patients with severe ptosis were studied. Inclusion criteria-levator function 4mm or less and MRD1of 0 or less. Outcome measures – postop MRD1, Lagophthalmos, symmetry, checked at 1month, 3month and 6month interval. Frontalis flap technique was used to correct severe ptosis.
RESULTS
Good results achieved in most patients (91.4%).Mean preop MRD1 was -1.14+/- 1.56mm, which improved to 3.93+/- 0.52mm with an average lagophthalmos of 0.91+/- 0.74. Overall recurrence rate seen in 3 cases. Few complications like incomplete closure 2 cases, overcorrection 1 case noted. Corneal exposure, exposure keratitis ,Infection, wound problems, and supratarsal sulcus obliteration not observed
CONCLUSION
Frontalis flap technique is an effective way to correct severe ptosis
