Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Ocular trauma in children is a major cause of blindness in the world. 5 to 15 % of childhood blindness is due to trauma.
AIM : To evaluate the ocular morbidity ,its management, and outcome in pediatric age group.
METHODS : It was a prospective study carried out in Department of Ophthalmology SMCH, for a period of 1 year. 60 patients of age 2- 12 years were included in the study.
RESULTS: In our study, out of 60 patients ,44% were in the age group of 10 to 12 years. The major mode of injury was with stationeries and household articles [44%]. Residence was found to be the main place of injury [50%]. 32 patients showed an improvement in visual acuity after intervention.
CONCLUSION: Early referral from the periphery and early presentation to the hospital , had early intervention, which led to better visual outcome in these patients.
