Abstract
Study Design: Retrospective, observational case series
Purpose: To study the functional and cosmetic outcome and the possible complications of socket reconstruction in contracted anophthalmic sockets and PESS sockets.
Methods: 30 patients of different age groups presenting with contracted anophthalmic sockets and post enucleation socket syndrome sockets over the last 2 years were included. Socket reconstruction with orbital implant and mucous membrane grafting with fornix forming sutures was done in all the patients. Clinical outcomes were assessed and statistically analyzed. Variables investigated include age, sex, surgical indication, complications, prosthesis fitting and need for an additional surgery.
Results: All cases had good sockets with adequate fornices for ocular prosthesis fitting at the 10 week marks. 3 patients required further surface correction, 1 patient required further volume correction and 2 patients required lower lid tightening post prosthesis fitting.
