Abstract

Study design- single centric hospital based interventional study
Purpose- we have plan to report a case of bilateral electric cataract in young male adult and to discuss its management
Methods – A 18 year male patient presented with gradual painless progressive diminution of vision in both eyes since 1 year. Patient had a history of electric shock 18 months back.Visual acuity in both eyes HMCF. Intumescent cataract in both eyes with shallow anterior chamber. Systemic examination shows presence of burn marks on scalp, face and palm. Phacoemulsification wih foldable PCIOL was done in both eye (+20 D).
Results- Visual acuity improved in Re 6/9 and LE 6/12 after uneventful cataract surgery.
Conclusions- An incidence of 6.2% cataract is reported following electric injury.this type of injury should have complete ophthalmology evaluation as soon as patient is stable. Generally these cases with good state of optic nerve as well as retina, uneventful elective surgery have good visual prognosis.
