Abstract
Retinoscopy is considered the gold standard for refraction in children but it has some limitations.Table-mounted devices are difficult to use in children. The Retinomax is a hand-held autorefractor that enables quick estimation of refractive errors. The aim of thE study is to investigate the accuracy of Retinomax. Observational Analytical study was conducted in children in the age group of 2 to 12 years attending POC in GNEC. A sample of 70 eyes were taken. The study found that in phakic eyes noncycloplegic retinomax underestimates hyperopia and overestimates myopia when compared to retinoscopy. This error was more in younger children due to stronger accommodation despite a fogging system in retinomax . Cycloplegia decreased this.In phakic eyes, there was a good agreement in terms of axis and cylinder irrespective of cycloplegia. In pseudophakic eyes, good agreement was found between retinomax and retinoscopy , However, a clinically significant difference was seen in terms of the axis.
