Abstract

A 28-year-old male patient was referred to the ophthalmology cancer clinic with suspicion of a parasitic cyst. On examination, the swelling was 16mm * 10 mm, on the nasal conjunctiva extending to the cornea, cystic in nature, with minimal movement over the underlying sclera. The absolute eosinophil count was normal.
On blunt dissection, the cyst was found to adhere to the insertion site of the medial rectus muscle. The bare sclera was covered with a conjunctival autograft. Histopathology of the cyst wall revealed acanthosis of the squamous epithelium and underlying fibrovascular connective tissue, suggesting pterygium.
