Abstract
PURPOSE:The present study evaluates dry eye after LASIK in patients using contact lenses vs not using contact lenses.
METHODS:Prospective interventional, non-randomized study was done. Pts >21 yrs with Sph Equi -1 to -10 D &min corneal thickness 500 microns. Pre-operatively all recorded for UDVA/CDVA, NCT,corneal topography(Orbscan),objective scatter index(HD analyser)&tear film tests. Symptoms were evaluated with Indian Dry Eye Questionnaire & evaluated at baseline,Day1, 15, 3 months& 6 months.
RESULTS:30 Contact Lens Wearers eyes were compared with 30 non CLWs eyes. Mean pre op vision (1.1 ± 0.4 vs 1.2 ± 3 LogMAR units) and CDVA at 6 months was comparable (P= 0.760) along with Pre op CCT & epithelial thickness. CLWs had higher OSI (P<0.001).CLWs had a significantly less TBUT pre op & at day 15 PO. TMH was much lower in CLWs pre op & 3 months PO with normal values at 3 months.
CONCLUSION:CLWs have worse dry eye parameters in post op after LASIK with return to normal values at 6months.
