Abstract

CASE REPORT
PURPOSETo report a case of infected corneal tear with retained intraocular foreign body associated with endophthalmitis
METHOD: A 35 year old male presented with the history of trauma to the left eye.He presented to us 2 days following trauma.On examination V/A in left eye was PL positive and anterior segment examination showed an infected corneal of about 4mm with stromal infiltration involving the central cornea.B scan showed IOFB with endophthalmitis.Right eye was within normal limits
RESULTS Total penetrating keratoplasty and intravitreal antibiotics was given on the day of presentation. On confirming the iofb on CT he underwent vitrectomy with iofb removal under the cover of systemic steroids.3 months later patient’s retina was on and the exudates were cleared
CONCLUSION An obstacle in iofb removal is poor visibility when the cornea is involved.
The combined procedure provides an opportunity for facilitating better visibility during pars vitrectomy with iofb removal.
