Abstract
It was a randomized trial of 40 patients aged 18-40 years with anisometropic or strabismic amblyopia for 1year, with 2 groups of 20 patients each. Group A received patching for 6 hours a day/week for 4 months while group B received oral citicoline (500mg BD, 2 cycles ,45days each) along with patching. The outcomes were assessed after 4 months in terms of distance vision, near vision, stereoacuity and contrast sensitivity (CS).
RESULTS: No significant difference was noted in terms of distance vision (p value-0.6), near vision (p value-0.06), stereoacuity (p value-0.09),Contrast senitivity (p value-0.5) between groups A&B. Distance vision improved significantly in both the groups but more in group B at 1month. CS & stereopsis improved in group B but it was statistically insignificant.
CONCLUSION: Both interventions were equally effective in terms of distance vision but citicoline improved CS and stereopsis also.
