Abstract
Study design:Descriptive cross sectional study
Aim and objective:To study role of vep in optic neuritis patients and its characteristics during course of disease.
Methods:Study conducted in all patients coming with diagnosis of optic neuritis to department of ophthalmology, tertiary care hospital and were referred to neurology department.Detailed history taken and complete ocular examination done.VEP done in 48 patients using pattern reversal technique.
Results:Out of 48 patients, there were 29 females(60.14%),19 males(39.5%) with average age 42 years.Mean latency waves described based on location of occipital electrodes .VEP results concluded as 24.8%left optic nerve lesion,13.1%,right optic nerve lesion,45.2%both and 16.7%normal.
Conclusion:In the study we found that majority are females around 42 years and pattern in majority is prolonged P100 latency, reduced amplitudes.VEP before and after treatment shows improvement which is directly proportional to clinical improvement in vision.
