Abstract
Purpose-To study the mode of injury, visual outcome in patients of hyphema due to blunt injury.Study design-Prospective observational study over 1 year on 40 eyes of 40 patients at tertiary centre of North India.Method- Demographic details, mode of injury,VA at admission, associated ocular findings were noted.Patients were kept on standard treatment and followed-up for 6 months.pvalue was calculated by chi square test.Results-88.75% males were affected.50% patients were ≤40 years.Sports related injury(51.25%%) was most common cause.Hyphema disappeared within 5 days in 68.5% of patients. Iris injuries were commonly associated.BCVA of 6/18 or better was noted in 46.25% of patients at the last follow-up. Significant association was seen between BCVA at presentation and at 6 weeks follow-up(p=0.024).Conclusion-Sports related injury is most common cause of hyphema in blunt injury.Good visual recovery without serious complications is possible with appropriate in-time treatment in such cases.
