Abstract
STUDY DESIGN:Retrospective study
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY:to study the demographic profile and the clinical profile of the patient presenting with extraocular foreign body.METHODS:A retrospective study was conducted in 40 patients presenting with extraocular foreign bodies during a period of 3 months,using appropriate inclusion and exclusion criterias with detailed evaluation of the mode of injury,type of extraocular foreign body,the clinical profile of the patient and ophthalmic evaluation.
RESULTS:out of the 40 patients that were studied, it was found that majority of the patients were males(96%),extraocular foreign bodies were more common in patients of age group 25-40 years(92%),corneal foreign bodies were more common than other types of extraocular foreign bodies(80%), 87.5% of the injuries were due to injury at workplace.
CONCLUSION:Extraocular foreign bodies comprise a considerable percentage of workplace injuries which are quite preventable with appropriate protective gear.
