Abstract
Penetrating keratoplasty is an open-sky procedure after trephining off of the diseased cornea & before suturing of the donor button, the intraocular contents are completely exposed to the atmospheric pressure. Suprachoroidal haemorrhage is a major eye-threatening complication, the chances of which increase significantly during open-sky procedure.
Penetrating keratoplasty is the only remaining elective open-sky procedure in today’s era, if open globe injuries are set aside. Prophylaxis and safeguard against this dreaded SCH is hence of utmost importance. We describe a novel technical adaptation during trephining and excision of host corneal tissue, ‘partial open sky technique’; the technique has been used in our centre in the performance of triple procedure & penetrating keratoplasty in seven cases. Though of short span and with minimal cases, we believe, adaptation of this technique can help cornea surgeons deal with prevention of suprachoroidal haemorrhage in a more effective manner.
