Abstract

PURPOSE – To report clinical findings and management of mycotic corneal ulcer caused by scedosporium sp.
METHODS – A 30 yr old male patient presented with complaints of Redness, Pain and Diminution of vision in left eye following history of trauma 4 days ago .On slit lamp examination, there was stain positive corneal ulcer of size 8*8 mm with feathery margins , dry looking with 1 mm convex shaped hypopyon present.Vision was HMCF. Initially patient was started on E/D Natamycin 1 hourly , E/D Moxifloxacin 4 hourly, Inj ceftriaxone 1.5 gm IV BD for 7 days, E/D Topin 3 times daily , Tab Paracetamol plus Serratio Peptidase. After 3 days culture report showing fungal colonies of scedosporium species . Patient was responding to treatment and signs and symptoms are decreasing so same treatment continued. After 10 days hypopyon resolved and symptoms decreased progressively.
RESULT – Scedosporium keratitis is an rare oculomycosis which responds to topical natamycin 5%.
