Abstract
Objectives: To determine the frequency of complications and outcomes of dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) performed by residents in a teaching hospital.
Methods: DCR surgery performed on patients with chronic dacryocystitis operated between May 2022 to April 2023 were included in the study.
Results: There were 136 patients included in the study between 18-60 years of age. 112 were females while 24 were males. Intraoperative complications included haemorrhage in 20 patients, injury to nasal mucosa in 11 following which flapless surgery was performed in 8 cases. Intubation was done in 8 cases. In 6 months follow-up 6 months, 11 patients presented with blockage and recurrence of epiphora. 1 patient presented with granuloma. Success rate was 92% in DCR surgery without intubation whereas it was 100% in DCR surgery with intubation.
