Abstract
Purpose: To describe clinical features and treatment outcomes of circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH) with Ru-106 episcleral plaque brachytherapy (EPB)
Methods: Retrospective review of 24 patients (24 eyes) with CCH treated using EPB between 2017-2022
Results: Mean age of presentation was 36 years (range:16-57).Most common location was temporal quadrant (19 eyes) involving the macula (13 eyes).Macular SRF was seen in 21 eyes with inferior exudative retinal detachment in 10 eyes. The mean basal diameter and height were 10.7 mm and 4.9 mm, respectively. 19 eyes had primary EPB while 5 received salvage treatment. Mean tumor apex dose was 40 Gy.At mean followup of 12 months, 100% tumor regressed with mean height reduction to 2.3 mm and complete resolution of SRF in 12 eyes. The mean BCVA improved from 1.2 to 1.0 logMAR units.
Conclusion: Ru-106 EPB is effective for CCH (more than 3 mm height), both as primary as well as salvage treatment for tumors unresponsive to other modalities.
