Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the 24-month outcomes of PRK in patients with high myopia (≥ 6.0 D) compared with low-to-moderate myopia (< 6.0 D). Methods: Prospective study was done on 112 patients who underwent PRK for myopic and astigmatic correction.High myopic eyes (48 eyes) were compared with low-to-moderate myopic eyes (176 eyes). Measured outcomes included postoperative UDVA, CDVA, MRSE, corneal haze. Results: At 12 months post-PRK, (21.4% ) in high myopia and (78.5%)in low-to-moderate myopia group had UDVA ≥ 20/20, (p< 0.05).Average postoperative UDVA at 12 months was 20/20 for both groups. Residual refractive errors >1 D, significant corneal haze was not seen after 1 year. The efficacy and safety indices at 12 months post-surgery were not significantly different between groups (1.06±0.25 vs.1.14±0.25, p <0.05and 1.14±0.25 vs 1.17±0.26, P< 0.05). Conclusion: PRK with high myopic correction provides excellent refractive outcome comparable to those of low-to-moderate myopic correction.
