Abstract
Study design:Prospective interventional study.Purpose:To evaluate the anatomical and visual outcomes of various types of diabetic macular edema.Methods:100 patients diagnosed with DME and consented for the study were treated with Intravitreal anti-VEGF monthly once for 3 months. The study subjects were evaluated visual acuity charted using Snellen’s chart and OCT done prior to anti-VEGF injection,on monthly followup visits and one month after treatment.Result:On OCT guided classification of DME, 48% were spongy and 52% cystoid macular edema,NSD in 22% of cases of spongy or cystoid.Patients showed reduction in edema post treatment, measured by macular thickness using OCT.The amount of reduction varies with presenting thickness and type of edema.Visual impairment is more in NSD.Visual improvement of average 2 lines is seen. Conclusion:The most common type of DME is cystoid macular edema. There is significant improvement of anatomical and visual outcomes of patient with 3 doses of anti VEGF.
