Abstract
Study Design – Case series
Purpose – To report a case series of 12 cases of central toxic keratopathy(CTK) post collagen cross linking(CXL) in keratoconus
Methods – This is a retrospective case series, duration between January 2020 and September 2021. In this period, CXL was performed for progressive keratoconus in 964 eyes using epithelium off accelerated protocol with a riboflavin soak time of 20minutes and a UVA light exposure of 9mW for 10minutes using the Avedro KXL(Glaucos Inc, Aliso Viejo, CA) crosslinking system
Results – 12 out of 964 eyes(1.2%) developed CTK within 1week of CXL. All patients presented with well circumscribed, central disciform haze which was broader in anterior stroma and narrower in posterior stroma. There was associated thinning and flattening in the area of haze which gradually recovered with conservative management.
Conclusion – The association of CXL in the development of CTK has never been described. We elucidate the clinical features of CTK post CXL.
