Abstract
Purpose: To report cases of hypertensive uveitis with pigment dispersion and irreversible dilated pupil 3-10days post uncomplicated cataract surgery, caused by herpes group of virus in 10patients without prior viral keratitis/uveitis/glaucoma. Methods: The study was retrospective case-series analysis of clinical charts of 20patients diagnosed with post cataract surgery hypertensive uveitis and pigment dispersion, who underwent cataract surgery. Results: The Herpes positive cases had higher corneal endothelial cell(CEC)loss (p < 0.05), higher IOP(p < 0.01), more positive number for cytomegalovirus(CMV)(p < 0.001) 2of10 patients had a high CEC reduction ratio and needed glaucoma surgery. The diagnosis of herpetic uveitis was made due to clinical presentation and serum antigen antibody titers for herpes viruses and treatment response to oral gancyclovir/acyclovir. Conclusion: Herpetic virus reactivation may occur after intraocular surgery in patients without prior ocular viral diseases.
