Abstract
Study design: Prospective study
Purpose: To study the efficacy of tacrolimus 0.1 % eye ointment for Nummular keratitis Vs Loteprednol 0.5%
Methods: This study was double blinded involved 100 cases of nummular keratitis post adenoviral kertoconjunctivitis randomly either in to a group that receive loteprednol 0.5%(52 cases) or Tacrolimus 0.1%(48 cases) and followed after 1 week and assessed for reduction of signs and symptoms and followed for a period of 6 months to see for recurrences.
Results: Reduction in signs and symptoms were comparable in both the groups with 48 in tacrolimus group and 44 in loteprednol group healed completely with in 4 weeks. The remaining cases healed with prolonged therapy. Recurrences were relatively more in the Loteprednol group 7 when compared to 1 in tacrolimus group.
Conclusions: Tacrolimus 0.1% eye ointment is an alternative to steroids in management of nummular keratitis and has a potential role in
preventing recurrence when compared to loteprednol.
