Abstract
Purpose: To correlate personality traits of patients undergoing refractive surgery with postoperative patient satisfaction and visual quality.
Methods: Prospective interventional study of 46 patients undergoing LASIK/SMILE. Personality traits evaluated using Big Five Inventory questionnaire. Postoperative patient satisfaction and visual quality assessed using questionnaires (QIRC, QoV and QLES-Q) at 3 months.
Results: Agreeableness (35.90%) was most common personality, neuroticism (8.70%) least common. At 3 months, conscientiousness and extraversion traits correlated positively with QLESQ and QIRC, negatively with QoV scores (p<0.05). Neuroticism had negative correlation with QLESQ and QIRC; positive with QoV scores (p<0.05). Agreeableness and openness to experience had no correlation. Visual acuity was comparable.
Conclusion: Postoperative visual quality and patient satisfaction were least in neurotic personalities, higher with conscientiousness and extraversion traits.
