Abstract

77 year old male presented with redness, pain in left eye since 2 months with episodes of remissions and exacerbations, no history of any systemic illness and BCVA of 6/24. On examination a crescentic shaped ulcer in the inferior peripheral cornea with undermined central edge at the ulcer base, 70 % thinning was noted . No evidence of scleritis was seen. Provisional diagnosis of Mooren’s ulcer was made. Investigations like RA, ANA, CRP, Chest X Ray, Montoux, HIV, VDRL, HCV were negative. Patient was started on topical steroids lubricants, antibiotics ,oral doxycycline and oral steroids in tapering doses. Conjunctival resection and amniotic membrane grafting was done. Patient improved clinically and showed 2 lines of improvement in BCVA .Patient was continued on tapering dose of topical and oral steroids and is on regular follow up .
