Abstract

Ocular cysticercosis occurs rarely and may involve various parts of the eye including subretinal space. In this video, we will be demonstrating the management of a case of subretinal cysticercosis which was removed in toto by pars plana vitrectomy in a one eyed patient . Our patient 35 year old male was referred by Neurologist for evaluation for ocular cysticercosis. He has a history of seizures for 8 years (last episode was 04 years back). CT brain showed multiple calcified cysticercosis lesions. Surgery was done on this patient after discussing the visual prognosis. We will be showing the removal of cysticercosis from the subretinal space to the vitreous cavity by making a small retinotomy and its delivery using passive extrusion. We were successfully able to remove complete cysticercosis by this simple procedure and the patient attained good vision. Advances in the viewing systems, instrumentation, and vitrectomy machines further make these complicated surgeries simple.
