Abstract

Purpose: To report a case of External Ophthalmomyiasis and its management.

Methods: A 32 year old male presented to the OPD with complain of foreign body sensation, pain, redness, and excessive watering of the right eye since 1 day. Patient didn’t have any similar ocular history in past. Patient didn’t have any ocular complain in LE. On examination visual acuity was 6/12 in RE & 6/9 in LE. Slit lamp examination shows Right eye lid edema with Conjunctival congestion with many small foci of conjunctival haemorrhage near superior and inferior fornix with many tiny translucent worms 3-4 mm in size crawling near fornix. Vigorous eye wash given with Betadine under 0.5% paracaine. The larvae removed with 26 gauge needle and sterile cotton, were sent to the laboratory for identification.

Result: 14 parasitic larvae, around 4 mm size were removed from conjunctiva of the RE.

Conclusion: Patient was diagnosed with RE external ophthalmomyiasis.
