Abstract
Aim-Squint affects visual,psychosocial&emotional behavior of children.There is a perception difference between children and their parents about the squint.Through this study we have assessed and compared the effects of strabismus on psychosocial&emotional health of patients and their parents and determined the change in health-related-quality-of-life-index pre and post corrective surgery. Methods-91 patients&parents with mean age of 8-15 years were included in the study. They were subjected to modified Adult Strabismus20questionnaire.The first10 questions are on psychosocial aspect and next 10 on functional aspects.Results-Scores were significantly lower for strabismus subjects as compared to their parents(P<0.001).Postoperative scores for all 91 patients and parents improved significantly(P < 0.01).Conclusion-There is a significant lack of awareness among parents about the effects of strabismus on their children. Study stresses on need for further strabismus awareness activities.
